This course aims to introduce students to Jazz and improvised music. Run as a ‘music-appreciation’ module, the course touches upon some of the key composers, historical developments and eventual diversification of jazz music from it’s inception in the 1920s to present day. Through specified listening and transcription assignments, students are guided to understand the key elements of performing this music and are encouraged to learn some of the repertoire for themselves.
