Deepak Castelino is an accomplished guitarist and banjo player who has been performing on stage for over thirty-five years. Essentially trained in the western tradition, Deepak has scored, and recorded music for English and Hindi films (“Electric Moon,” “In Which Annie gives It Those Ones,””Khamosh Paani,””Milk and Opium,””I Am Kalaam”), theatre and television commercials. Deepak has participated in international music residencies and performed on stage for over 25 years with renowned Sufi music exponent and academician Dr. Madan Gopal Singh in Pakistan (2001 and 2006), Switzerland (2004), Italy (2005), Germany (2006), Belgium (2006), Nepal (2010 and 2013), United Kingdom (2011, 2016 and 2017), France and Australia (2011), United States (2014 and 2017), Canada (2014 and 2017) and Muscat (2015).-
As an active performing artist for Spic-Macay (Society for the Promotion of Indian Culture, Music and Art among Youth), Deepak has performed and given lecture-demonstrations for diverse and varied audiences in academic institutions and venues all around the country.
Deepak’s versatile repertoire includes traditional English and Hindi folk music, jazz, and popular western music. He is one of Delhi’s best-known live music entertainers and performs extensively at private and corporate parties, and social causes. In addition, Deepak teaches students, young and old, to play guitar. He conducts guitar workshops regularly at popular venues such as the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi and Epicentre, Gurgaon.
Deepak has directed plays and musicals at prestigious schools such as the Doon School, Dehradun, The Assam Valley School, Tezpur, Mayo College, Ajmer; Neerja Modi School, Jaipur; Springdales School, New Delhi; Bluebells School, New Delhi…to name a few, and also at schools for underprivileged children at villages and slums in and around Delhi and Haryana. Formerly Head, Department of Music at the Pathways School, Gurgaon, Deepak now teaches guitar and conducts music and guitar workshops at schools around the country. In September 2012, Deepak also received an accreditation from the Yamaha Music Company, Japan, to be a Yamaha-certified guitar instructor. At present, Deepak is a Music Consultant at Shikshantar School, South City-1, Gurgaon where he teaches middle and senior school students to play guitar, keyboards and drums. He also travels regularly to several schools in India to conduct music workshops for music educators and students.
