Takar was born on February 20, 1991, in Doimukh, Arunachal Pradesh, India, where he grew up listening to his cousin brother play some distorted guitar. But it was only at the age 11, when he had already shifted to Delhi, that he got his first guitar, on the condition that he wouldn’t let his academics suffer. He grew up listening to rock, metal, blues, funk, etc.
In his schooling years from 2005-2008, he had participated in various inter school competitions and won the best instrumental band, best guitar player, gaining a lot of exposure in the Delhi music scene.
Post Schooling, his school band, which was named as ‘Guillotine’ decided to take it to another level, and they participated at various college festivals, and won enough to finance the bands debut album, ‘The Cynic’, a progressive metal album, which got some great reviews from India, Mexico, and some renowned metal magazines from around the world.
Guillotine shared the stage with Metallica in 2011, after battling it out with the 10 other best bands from India.
By the age of 21, he realized that his musical knowledge had to expand beyond metal, rock, blues, funk, and so he decided to study jazz music, world music, Konnakol at Swarnabhoomi Academy of music for two semesters. In 2013 he had finished his one year diploma program in Music Performance there. At Swarnabhoomi academy of music, he had learn’t under Manuel Valera, Jake Hertzog, Rubens De La Corte, Karina Colis, Sophia Tosello, Yuri Juarez, Juancho Herrera, Dario Boente, Phil Maturano, Steve Zerlin, Deanna Witkowski, Yunior Terry, Farah Siraj, Andres Rotmistrovsky, Jovol Bell, Arthur Kell. This was an important part of his life as it opened him up as a musician and also pushed him to pursue music more seriously.
The diverse musical influences of Takar is very obvious, as he is also associated with other projects apart from Guillotine. He has a jazz instrumental trio setup by the name Takatrio. Currently, he is working on collaborations.
Besides being a musician, Takar also teaches music to the kids at Music Basti and various other institutions based in Delhi.
