Zahra Husaini

Zahra is a multidisciplinary artist with interests in music, theatre, writing, and photography. She started working backstage in theatre at the age of 14 and has since had the opportunity to explore various aspects of it through production, acting, singing, and playwriting. From 2016 to 2018 she was a founding member of the slam poetry group 'Slip of Tongue.' As a group they organised several events throughout Delhi where she performed her own pieces of prose as well as supported the group as a vocalist. In University, she had the opportunity of being the President of the Western Music Society of Hindu College in her third year where she conducted, arranged, & led the choir, participating in A cappella competitions in the Delhi College Music Circuit. She began her formal training in voice in 2016 at the Delhi School of Music and then later at Theme Institute of Music, in both schools under Aching Shaiza, spanning over a period of 8 years, exploring genres such as jazz, western classical, musical theatre, R&B, neo-soul, etc. In 2019, she was a selected member of the Caux Artist Programme, specialising in musical theatre, as part of the Initiatives of Change event which took place in Caux, Switzerland wherein she got the chance to train under artists such as Dida Guigan and Jihye Kim. In January 2023 she released her first single under the artist name 'Filmizuki'. In the same year, she conducted her first vocal workshop which was aimed to help young singers in finding their voice. She has completed her Grade 4 Trinity Classical voice exam with distinction as well as Grade 8 Rock & Pop with the same. Since the past year has been working as a full time gigging musician  alongside writing her own music and holding private lessons from her residence. Zahra’s approach to voice and music has been deeply tied to self-expression, learning to become comfortable in your own skin by exploring the joy of discovering oneself through voice/movement, as well as the desire to make people feel things.
