Appreciating Music with Rainer Pusch

‘Appreciating music with Rainer Pusch’ was a great workshop. I learned a lot from it. Accompanying Mr. Rainer Pusch on the saxophone, there was Mr. Jigmee Dorjee Sherpa on the guitar and Ms. Ekaterina Aristova on the upright bass. It was a great addition to the regular guitar lessons I took with Mr. Jigmee Sherpa and it gave me a lot of information to explore further. Mr. Rainer Pusch was an enthusiastic instructor which made the workshop even better. They structured the workshop in such a manner in which they first played a popular song then they explained the theory behind what they played.

Mr. Rainer Pusch explained the thought that went behind the solos he played, he talked about how he formed his melody lines, how to know the key of chord progressions and other elements.

Ms. Ekaterina Aristova explained how she decided what notes to play according to the chord progression. She also explained the role of a bass player and demonstrated how she plays differently while accompanying and differently while soloing.

Mr. Jigmee Sherpa provided harmony accompaniment to the songs on the guitar. He also explained what it is like to work with other trained musicians. For example: They did not need to prepare much to play jazz standards together.

I really liked the experience.
