Songwriting Open Session with LilaNoor Ensemble

EVENT : Songwriting Open Session with LilaNoor Ensemble
DATE : Friday 7th Feb 2020
ARTISTS: Harmonie Deschamps Bhanu Sharma Chayan Adhikari Avik Roy A magnificent stage production and an insight into songwriting , inspiration and subjectivity .

The lilanoor ensemble presented an amalgamation of folktales filled with nostalgia of our childhood , stories that brought to light the morals that were once taught to us to remember forever.

The melodies that accompanied the folktales added gravitas to the production which gave an insight about how songs can be written , how it doesn’t always have to be an original and that inspiration can be taken from anything , be it a poem or an object placed infront of you , anything that rows your boat can be your first step into the world of songwriting. The lilanoor ensemble took inspiration from the words written by the great Shri Rabindranath Tagore , they gave melody to his surreal words , making it an experience for the learners.

The musical story telling show left everyone awestruck . It was an hour of experiential learning, theatrics , giggles, soothing harmonies and brilliant story telling. The songwriting workshop was a housefull , from students of age 8 to 18. The session allowed students to surpass their inhibitions and take a step forward to capturing their experiences and feelings in a song . The session validated all those who would freeze at times , when they tried to write words or form tunes, allowing them to feel at ease with their creative process , educating them about the important role patience has to play ! The whole concept was woven into a perfect tapestry of imagination , thinking beyond your belief system , folklore from India and Europe , making the whole experience ethereal.

The interactive session allowed the students to share where they’ve reached in terms of their songwriting and how it can be carried forward . We are very grateful to Bhanu sir , Harmonie maam , Chayan sir and Avik sir for giving us a glimpse into what we are capable of creating ! ‘Buried treasures ‘ by the lilanoor ensemble took my breath away ! Put it on your list folks !
