Sound Exploration Programme June 2023

Sound exploration was an excellent workshop led by Deepak sir, designed to introduce us to music production.

We started by learning the basics of navigating a digital audio workstation (DAW) like Garageband. We quickly moved on to programming drums and other instruments while ensuring they followed the correct rhythm. We also learned to use MIDI keyboards and understand the flexibility they provide. We then learned how to use samples, live loops and apply effects.

After that, we moved on to Logic Pro, a more advanced industry-standard DAW.

We learned how to use vocoders, plug-ins, chord triggers, synthesizers, and how to mix tracks.

We learned all these tools to create, record, and arrange music. We used them to bring our ideas to life by creating two projects:

  • A soundtrack for a video game where the protagonist finds and explores a fire temple in a jungle.
  • A background score for a scene where an astronaut goes out for a spacewalk when suddenly, the sun explodes.

We presented these projects at the OWCM showcase on 22 July 2023. This workshop provided us with valuable hands-on experience in producing music using software. This is an essential skill for modern musicians, and we are grateful to OWCM for providing us with this opportunity!
